3 Trick or treat
We had a fun and hectic night tonight trick-or-treating with our neighbors and their kids. We actually only walked down our street and one over from us, and Leighton only collected candy from our next door neighbors, but it was fun walking around and seeing how excited (or scared) the kids were to trick-or-treat. I think in the end, Leighton's costume was adorable. But I'm extremely biased.

Chad and Leighton with our across-the-street neighbor, Jeff. Yeah, it was a bit of a happy hour for the parents!
I thought this particular angle was kind of cool...like Leighton was holding the camera herself--a self-portrait, although she obviously wasn't.
I'm quickly learning that while it's hard to get one baby to look at/smile for the camera, it's twice as hard with two! Here Leighton is with our next door neighbor, Molly (who just turned a year old in September).
Leighton with Tasia and Keira, who live across the street. Leighton is so fascinated with the older girls, and I think they love playing with her too.

Molly's mom, Margaret finally was able to get Molly to look at and even look somewhat happy for the camera!
Preston and Anne Marie with John Radford. They had all the neighbors over after trick-or-treating for pizza. (For the record, I went over and Chad stayed home with Leighton.)
Here Leighton in action: Chad didn't really like going up to the doors and especially didn't want to collect candy. But I made him go up a few times.

1 Where'd nap time go?
I know I need to remind myself what a good sleeper Leighton is at night. After all, she sleeps 14 hours most nights. A "bad" night for her is sleeping 12 hours straight. So I know we are lucky. But, um, what about naps? She used to have several decent naps a day, and then she was down to two good naps. Now I'm lucky is she sleeps an hour a day. Wah! I'm really, really hoping this is just a phase and she'll go back to taking some longer naps. I've been experimenting with moving around her nap times, but haven't hit gold yet. It just makes it challenging to take care of her with only a 45 minute break! Yikes.
On the flip side of that, don't know if anyone saw Oprah yesterday, but it was a real tearjerker and reminded me how very lucky I am to have Leighton here, healthy and happy and thriving. So I try to remind myself of that when I get tired or frustrated. What a wonderful problem to have: Too much time with a sweet baby. I'll take it.
We're sort of stalled on the crawling front with Leighton's brace hindering much movement, but I wonder if this is something I should be happy about. Do I really want her moving around all over the place? It will happen eventually, so I should be thankful for this little extra time we have to get our house babyproofed.
Leighton is very aware of everything going on around her. When Chad comes home at the end of the day and opens the door, she cranes her neck to see what's going on in that direction. It's so fun to watch her taking it all in. She wants everything now...remote control, the phone, whatever I have in my hand, she wants. And she's started getting a little cranky if she doesn't get it. Uh-oh! Of course, everything just goes right into her mouth.

We're still loving these baby leg warmers, especially now that it's a little cooler during the days.

Leighton loves Angela, our nanny who comes two days a week. She grins when Angela arrives in the morning and even stretches her arms out to her. Angela is so sweet to her (calls her corazon, which means heart in Spanish) and it makes me happy that Leighton likes her. I held off getting a nanny for so long because I just wasn't ready to share Leighton with anyone else. But I know that it's good for her to be comfortable with other people besides me. Baby steps! Literally.
One thing that we've been doing lately that I've come to really enjoy: taking early evening walks in the neighborhood. Now that it's not so HOT outside, it's actually enjoyable to be out and Leighton loves seeing all the trees, houses, dogs, and people on our walks. It's also really good for my mental state...especially at the end of the day.
We're looking forward to Halloween Friday. I'm not feeling terribly great about her costume, but what can you do. Leslie assures me babies look cute in anything, so you really can't go wrong. I'll be sure to post pictures of her all dressed up!

2 Pumpkin Patch
We went to the Pumpkin Patch tonight with Gordon and Leslie. It was not as easy as I thought it would be getting a decent picture of Leighton with the pumpkins. In fact, it was exhausting. There were many other people there trying to get pictures of their kiddos, which was very distracting for Leighton. She just wanted to look at all the other kids. We did our best. Leighton wasn't smiling too much tonight. We tried to get a couple with Leighton and Gordon--not an easy task!

3 Wild weekend in San Antonio
We went to San Antonio over the weekend because Friday night, my dear dad was inducted as the President of the International College of Dentists, USA section. That's a very prestigious honor, and we are all so proud of him. There was a nice dinner/dance Friday night at the Hyatt Grand downtown SA and many of our family members came to show support for dad.
My dad with Matt. Check out that heavy duty thing around his neck! It's got all the past Presidents of the International College on it. Pretty cool!
We had a great time celebrating with my family, while Chad's parents watched Leighton. Thanks Charles and Vicki! We don't get out much anymore so when we do, it's a real treat.
Here Charles is with Leighton. She had a rough transition when got into town...a mixture I think of traveling, not napping, and mommy attachment. She was much better Saturday once she had a good night's sleep.
