2 4 months old!

Has it really been four months? Time is just flying by. Georgia is just such a sweet little baby these days. She grins whenever I walk up (it's true!) and I love it. We certainly have spent enough time together that she should know me by now. Leighton really enjoys our monthly photo sessions. Today we did a little outfit coordination as well!

Georgia having a little tummy time. She hates tummy time. She always squirms around for a bit and then starts crying.
Oh my heart just melts looking at these two girls together! What fun they will have growing up together. I'm so glad they have each other.

Now THIS is a real smile from Leighton. I love it! Happy as a clam, our little girl. Of course, I'm laughing because right after our photo session, Leighton sort of gently kicked Georgia after I told her not to, so I took Georgia out of Leighton's room and closed the door for a time out. So I had Leighton crying in her room, and as I walked away with Georgia, Georgia vomited all over me and it splattered all over the floor. Ah...motherhood. (Anyway, just shows you pictures can be deceiving. Looks it's all smiles and the easy life over here...not so!)

Georgia is in that stage where she is close to sitting up...but not quite there. She tries so hard to sit up when I prop her up on this boppy pillow. I remember feeling bad for Leighton when she was a baby. Surely it gets boring being on your back looking up at the ceiling all the time!
I had Georgia on this chair and I went into the kitchen. When I came back, Leighton had snuggled herself right on up too.
At the doctor's office yesterday, our doctor gave us thumbs up to try rice cereal whenever we are ready. I'm not quite there yet, but sometime in June we'll give it a go!

1 G's 4-month appointment

We had a great 4-month appointment yesterday for Georgia. Here are her stats as of yesterday:
Weight: 10 pounds, 10.5 ounces
Height: 23 inches
Head circumference: 39.5 centimeters

Interestingly, I checked on Leighton's stats at HER 4-month appointment and they were almost identical!
Weight: 10 pounds, 13 ounces
Height: 23.5 inches
Head circumference: 39 centimeters

This is Leighton at her 4-month appointment. I wish I could get these pictures side-by-side. The girls do look quite alike, yet I do think Georgia is going to look a little different. Who knows. It's so crazy that Georgia is almost exactly the same size as Leighton at the same time. Right?
Back to Georgia, she had two shots yesterday, and she did cry for them and stopped pretty much right when they were done. And then she slept.
I talked to the doctor about Georgia sleeping in her swing. First, the doctor said she is not concerned about Georgia's head being flat. Yay! She said it looked fine. Second, she said her head probably is less flat in the swing than it would be if she was in her crib, because she swing takes pressure off the back of her head. And she said it's NOT an issue...at some point Georgia will want to stretch out and have more space, and that's when she will do fine in her crib. Until then, the swing is fine. So that's a huge relief.

I was telling the doctor that Georgia has started to make raspberries (when they blow with their mouth to make bubbles) and I did it with my mouth and right then Georgia did it for the doctor too! Great timing. The doctor said Georgia is absolutely advanced and brilliant. As if I didn't already know this.

Georgia had no reaction really to her shots and she had a lovely, quiet day at the house. I caught this moment with Chad later that night:

I was a little sad looking at this picture. Only because I feel like I'm not in many pictures with the girls, and yet I'm with them ALL THE TIME. We're going to have to work on this.

2 Love these girls

My parents came this past weekend for a visit. On Friday afternoon, we went on a walk to meet them as they arrived in the neighborhood. Leighton's outfit tickled my mom to no end. (She accessorized with the hat, sunglasses, and purse...not me!)
Georgia was looking pretty cute too...although going with the less is more fashion theme.
Saturday morning, Chad went to play golf (which he doesn't get to do much now that our hands our full with two kiddos) and my parents and I took Leighton to the Children's Museum. The past month, we've taken Leighton to either the Museum or the Zoo every weekend, so I'm getting to know these places pretty well.

Leighton loves the room where you can paint. The project this past Saturday was "Making your own primary colors." I love that she loves to color, draw, and paint. A little artist!
Leighton was having a great time outside in the Waterworks area when a little boy just plowed into her and knocked her over. She didn't cry, but she was clearly upset, and she immediately headed for the door inside. Poor girl didn't recover from that the rest of the time there! She's a sensitive little thing (although in her defense, the boy did totally take her by surprise). Chad told me when we got home he would have "kicked the boy's little ass" which cracks me up. Sort of glad he wasn't there after all!

I'm not sure what we are both looking at here, but we seem to have the same disgusted expression on our face. This was up in the Tot Spot where kids under 3 can run around like crazy.
Leighton had the best time in front of this mirror. She would jump up and down and just laugh and laugh at her reflection.

I sat down in the corner to feed Georgia and Leighton came and sat down with me. We could tell she was still a little sad from getting knocked down. (Did I mention she had a skinned knee?!)

It looked like there was some sort of science fair going on at the Museum, and as we walked out, this guy and his son were walking in with none other than R2D2. The guy made it himself! Said it took him two years. It was pretty cool for us (being such big Star Wars fans and all).
Here's Georgia content as can be in her favorite place. Look at that little dimple! Love it! She's really becoming such a sweet little thing. And a GREAT sleeper! Last night she slept from 9 at night until 8:30 this morning!! That's Baby Leighton-style sleeping. I hope she keeps it up. Next up: do this in the crib!
Oops. Looks like she heard me mention her crib. This expression looks like "Oh no!! Not that scary crib! Please let me stay here!"
Sunday morning I decided the girls both looked pretty festive in their outfits, so we held a photo session. Leighton was playing hard to get with the smiles...
until my dad lifted his shirt to show her his bellybutton. Then she was ALL smiles (and all bellybutton).

It was hard to figure out where to put Georgia. She's not quite sitting up on her own, but she was too big to put in Leighton's lap. So we told Leighton to hold on to her tight right here. And she did a great job.

Until "Look mom, no hands!" (Note: No babies were harmed in the making of this photo.)
Leighton and Georgia with Granna and Grandpa. Pretty darn cute picture, I have to say! I love when my parents come for a visit. I'm still a momma/daddy's girl and love to have them close.

In case you were wondering, that IS a little bumblebee onesie on Georgia. And that is little wings on the back of her. So adorable!

She's really getting big, isn't she? She has her 4-month appointment tomorrow morning. I can't wait to hear all her stats and she how she's doing.

One of my friends asked me the other day if I feel like I'm getting a handle on having two kids. I would say the answer is not quite! It's definitely a challenge. But at least now that I'm getting some good chunks of sleep at night, I'm able to handle the days much better. I will say I've never smiled so much in my life, and I have my girls to thank for that!

1 My name is Georgia...

And I'm addicted to my swing. Seriously. What are we going to do??!! Georgia is doing great at night (last night slept from 9 to 5...Chad has brought back the ol dream feed we did on Leighton). It's great! But it's in her swing! We have been giving honest efforts to get her to sleep in her crib or bassinet. She'll go 30-45 minutes. But that's it! We put in the pacifier, play music, swaddle, rub her belly, play white noise, sing, repeat, repeat, repeat. It will not work! But...as I've learned with Leighton: everything is a stage and she won't be in the swing forever.

But...she IS starting to flatten out a little on the back of her head. Not that she won't be on her back in her crib, but I'm thinking we have GOT to get this girl outta the swing soon. Stay tuned...
Leighton is still loving painting. I bought some watercolors, but that turned out to be a complete mess. Although she does love it. But I think the paints that don't need water are our best bets right now. We got her a table from Pottery Barn so she can do her art there instead of on the floor. She loves it (and also loves eating her meals there now too).
I've noticed every time someone walks into our house, Leighton immediately shouts "Here's Georgia!" She wants everyone to know where she is. I'm lucky she loves her sister so much.
One thing I've been enjoying lately: watching Leighton play. The wheels are really starting to turn in there. She whispers while she's playing and I love to see what she does. One afternoon I watched while she put all of her bows on the floor and then walked them, one by one, to another area in the room, arranging them just so. And then she walked them back. Whispering to herself the whole time. It's a joy to watch.

1 Little victories

We're making strides with Georgia and her sleeping around here. Tiny strides. And we are celebrating each little one. For example, she slept IN HER CRIB a few nights ago for several hours. Huge. She slept almost 12 hours (in her crib AND more in her swing) the other night. She's sleeping longer and we're trying to get her more comfortable in her crib. Baby steps. I'm lucky Chad is so involved because it really is taking both of us to get Georgia going on this. It's a fun little science experiment. We just never know what to expect each night...it changes every night.

Leighton is always interested when I put on makeup, and the other day I just let her go to town with my eyeshadow. It looks like she has a black eye, but she had fun and that's really all that matters, isn't it? Don't be alarmed at the band-aids on her legs; she loves to put band-aids on. (Except she won't put them on ACTUAL boo-boos.)
Gordon and Harry came over on Saturday for a little play time. It was great fun to watch the kids play. I forgot what it's like to have a baby Harry's age...he's all about putting anything in his mouth. I better get ready for that with Georgia! Here's poor Harry in Leighton's little play stroller.

Unfortunately, this was one of the last good times we had with Leighton's little stroller. On Monday, I broke it while out on a walk with Leighton. She and I sometimes go walking with Georgia in my stroller and Leighton's baby in her stroller. Monday she decided she didn't want to walk her stroller anymore, so I folded it up. Then she changed her mind and wanted her stroller back. While opening it, I totally busted the plastic and broke it. Oops! The rest of the walk Leighton repeated "Mommy broke my stroller." I felt like a jerk. I told her I was sorry and that accidents happen and she told me "It's ok, mommy. You are sad." I've already replaced the stroller with a new one.

There's this chick on Nick Jr. that sings a song about emotions. I guess it's supposed to teach kids that it's ok to experience happiness, sadness, anger etc. Leighton sure is learning...when she's crying and I say "What's wrong?" she has been replying "I'm sad." Pretty cute.
