1 Mother's Day

Mother's Day weekend started with Mother's Day Tea in Georgia's classroom. We had been talking about it all week and Georgia was SO excited that I was coming to her school for tea. So was I! I got there a little early, so I watched as they went through their morning routine with Mrs. Moore.

 

Then, the fun began. All the kids served us lemonade and strawberries with powdered sugar. Georgia had SO much fun getting my drink and food.

Georgia made me a dish towel with her hand prints on it in the shape of a butterfly. I love it! What a sweet way to start the weekend.

And it was a FUN weekend. I haven't spent Mother's Day with my own momma in several years, but I called her up and said "Wouldn't it be fun if we went to a hotel and spent the weekend shopping and eating and sleeping?" She agreed, and arrived Friday afternoon. We stayed at the St. Regis hotel...very fancy...and had a blast! We went out to dinner, went shopping, took naps, watched a movie...it was truly a delightful weekend. We did stop by the house Saturday morning to take the girls to the fire station to deliver goodies to the firefighters, but other than that, we were out and about. We went to a few antique stores, went to my favorite brunch spot, Shade, and had a lovely time hanging out alone. It was a wonderful weekend. Mom, let's do it again next year!

Sunday morning, Chad brought the girls up to the hotel and my mom headed back to San Antonio to go be celebrated by Matt and Brad and Grandpa, and I spent the day with my girls. It was perfect!

1 Girl Scout Daisy's trip to the fire station

At the beginning of May, Leighton's Daisy troop took a field trip to a local fire station to learn about fire safety. I volunteered to take a group of girls to the fire station, which was a lot of fun. Georgia also came with us. We had a group of really nice, patient firefighters that explained all about fires and fire safety. They got so graphic in detail, a few of the girls got scared and started crying. Not Leighton! Either she wasn't totally listening, or it really didn't scare her. I absolutely LOVE this picture one of the other moms took of her. So sweet!

 I was very interested in learning all about fire safely, and looking at the fire truck was so fun. I am sure I visited a fire station when I was little, but it's been a while!

We got to see how much goes in to their firefighting gear...it's quite a process to protect their skin from heat. Wow.

Two days later, we went back to the fire station and took a chocolate cake and brownies to thank the firemen. Leighton made a sweet card for them and I think they were touched that we came back! I plan to continue to take them little treats...I think it's good for the girls to take the time to thank others.

0 Georgia's Ballet Recital

Georgia had her ballet recital this past Saturday, and it was WONDERFUL! We really had no idea what to expect from her. When we got to watch her in class in December, she didn't really do any of the dancing, and she just made faces at us the whole time. So...I wasn't sure if she would do the same at her recital. Boy, did she surprise us!

First, she was sick. Houston is experiencing a tough allergy season right now, and Georgia has been coughing and sneezing and feeling yucky. I didn't send her to school Friday so she could rest up. Saturday morning, she still felt about the same, but I could tell she was excited about the recital. I took her to get her hair put in a professional ballerina bun. She was thrilled!

We had a dress rehearsal earlier in the afternoon Saturday, and Georgia's teacher had requested that parents do all their photography and videotaping then so as not to distract the girls on their actual performance. (Also, there is a professional videographer at the recital, so we get a DVD! I was ready with my camera and my video...and I went to town!

This is Bridget, who is in Georgia's class this year at school, and she also lives in our neighborhood. These two are pretty adorable together.

 

I was pretty giddy watching Georgia rehearse. She was peppy, spunky, full of energy and joy, smiling, and doing ALL THE MOVES! I was so impressed! I wasn't sure she had caught on to ballet, but it looks like she is all over it. And she quite loves being on stage.

 

 Do you see her tongue here? She did this the ENTIRE performance. It was HILARIOUS! That's my Georgie!

She did great at rehearsals...and I was even more excited because I knew she was going to be on FIRE for the recital. We went home and rested for a bit, and then headed back for the big night. She even got a little blush and lipstick!

I had brought spray on body/hair glitter and I sprayed all of the girls in Georgia's class. (Someone had told me to get this last year for Leighton's recital, and it was very, very popular.) I loved the expressions on the girls' faces...like they had suddenly turned into magical fairies with the sparkles.

Of course, I don't have any pictures of her actual performance, but it was awesome and we all had HUGE smiles on our faces. Leighton came with me at intermission to help Georgia take off her tutu and get ready for her second dance. Leighton was a very proud big sister.

I told Georgia to strike some poses for me. Little miss thing gave me some great poses!

Georgia screamed when she saw her friend from school, Zoe, had come to watch. Georgia and Zoe LOVE each other.

None of the grandparents were able to come...Nonny is in Portugal and Granna and Grandpa were in Florida, so we were thrilled that Lance came. Georgia felt extra special...and we think Lance is WAY WAY sweet for coming to watch. He's definitely an honorary uncle!

 

After the recital, Georgia was absolutely exhausted, so we headed to TCBY for a little ice-cream celebration, and then home to pass out. What an extraordinary day!
