2 Little Aggie

Chad went to the A&M game last night and brought Leighton this adorable little Aggie dress! She looks so cute in it. (Sorry, Longhorn grandparents, we got to her first!)


Leighton clearly has grown taller because she's starting to reach things she's never been interested in before. Like all the buttons for the DVD player and cable. Uh-oh...looks like it's about time for us to childproof.
Look at this wacky hair! She just got up from her nap here. I'm not neglecting her...we're growing her hair out. Most of the time we pull her bangs out of the way so she can see, but we let her run wild for a while after waking up. Notice the stickers on her legs. She LOVES stickers, and she was putting them on me for a while; now she's putting them on herself.
It's been a tough weekend. I got sick (upper respiratory infection), but because I'm pregnant, pretty much all I can take is Tylenol. So I've been miserable coughing and sneezing and trying to stay away from Leighton so I don't get her sick. (And no, it's not the swine flu. I went to the doctor Saturday just to make sure!)

4 Art time and playdate with Lila

Today I decided Leighton and I were going to play with finger paints and play-doh. She LOVES to color, so I thought possibly she might enjoy this. However, I do know Leighton does not like to get dirty. She's always giving us her hands to remove the tiniest piece of dirt, and she sure didn't like the sand at the beach. So my expectations weren't terribly high.

We got all set up and ready to rumble. I started off with the finger paints to show her how FUN it is.

Yep, she was totally disgusted with the whole thing. Look at this face! She wouldn't even touch the paints.
And she totally didn't like the play-doh! At all. She was way grossed out by it and wanted out of her chair right away.
This face cracks me up! I mean, here I am trying to have a fun art session and she is completely repulsed. Which is fine. I just thought I'd try it out. I LOVE that she's such a little lady!
I did ask her to smile for me before I got her down since all the pictures I took of her had that look of disgust on them.
We moved on to what DOES make her happy: coloring. She loves spelling her name and today she spelled the whole thing while I wrote it! She's brilliant, no?
Earlier in the week, my friend Lauren and her daughter Lila came over to play. Lauren's mom, Glenda, knew my parents when they were in dental school, so I've known Lauren since I was little. It's so fun now to get together with OUR daughters.

I guess Leighton isn't used to being the older toddler in the group. She seemed very fascinated by Lila and sort of just watched her the whole time. Isn't Lila a cutie? I couldn't get these two to both look at the camera at the same time. (I actually couldn't get Leighton to look at me at all.)



I've come to realize the importance of play dates. It helps the time go by faster, and it's nice to have someone Leighton's age for her to play with for a bit. I sometimes run out of ideas of things to do (hence, the failed art class).

5 Happy 7-year anniversary

It's our anniversary today! It's been a great 7 years...filled with highs and lows, laughter and tears, and ONE SWEET BABY GIRL! Happy anniversary to my parents as well, whom we share an anniversary with!

1 Lazy Sunday

We had a pretty lazy Sunday today, which was so nice. We ate lunch over at Gordon and Leslie's and this afternoon, we went to a birthday party for our next-door neighbor Molly, who turned 2. Other than that, this is pretty much what we did:
I had to call for another photo session for me and Leighton because I'm ALWAYS the one taking pictures, so I hardly have any pictures of the two of us. So here's a few pics of us playing. Lately, Leighton likes to spell her name (she knows E comes after L, which is a start) and she likes counting. Chad and I also sang lots of songs to her together this afternoon and we could tell she was just loving BOTH of us singing at the same time.
I just realized it looks like I'm spanking her here...not even close! She was crawling up into my lap.

Leighton is getting better at giving kisses...on demand, that is. But she sure laid one on me earlier! I love it!
Leighton's been having lots of little "moments" lately where she'll cry and cry and throw herself around on the floor. I have been just ignoring it, or today I put her in my lap and she quieted down right away and we just sat there rocking for a little bit. I'm not sure what is going on, but I think she just needs a moment of quiet to get herself together (and maybe I do too).

1 Labor Day in San Antonio

We went to San Antonio for the Labor Day weekend because Aunt Fara and Almost-Uncle Pete had a wedding shower there Sunday night. We stayed at Nonny and Granddaddy's house, and in addition to Pete and Fara, Chad's cousin Leighton and his wife Lynette were also there. It was a fun weekend. Leighton's favorite toy at the Fergusons? Two dog beds that the dogs won't sleep in, but Leighton enjoyed being thrown on them. Repeatedly. Again? Again? She says that a lot now...and the way she says it is so cute: a-gane.
Here are two of the Leightons in the family together. I think it's fun having several Leightons in the family...makes it a strong family name!
I hardly took any pictures at the actual shower, unfortunately. If I get my hands on anyone else's pics, I would love to post them. Here are Chad and Leighton with Chad's best friend Lee, and Lee's parents and daughter. We LOVE the Raney family and it was so good to get to visit with them.
This is ALL Leighton wanted to do at the party. "Walking?" she would say. "A-gane?" So someone was pretty much constantly walking around with her. She's SO close to doing it on her own. Any day now! I have to say, she looks pretty cute, doesn't she? In her little dress and shoes and bow? COME ON! It's adorable.

Uncle Brad and Uncle Matt were both at the shower, and both of them got their turn walking with Leighton. I barely got this picture taken before they were off and walking again.
And that's all the pictures I took at the shower. Pretty sad, huh? I spent most of my time keeping track of Leighton. I guess welcome to the world of kids! Monday morning, I took Leighton over to see my grandmother, and my Uncle Ronnie and Aunt Meg were over at my grandmother's house as well. It was Ronnie's birthday so we all sang happy birthday to him. Leighton was infatuated with my dad's iPhone the whole time.

This is Lynette, Fara, Pete, Nonny, and Leighton. We all went to lunch Monday before heading our separate ways across Texas.
This picture makes me so sad. Fara was crying because she won't see Leighton until April (have I mentioned Fara lives in Portugal?). It's always sad when we have to leave her.




We had a great weekend, although I think all of us need an extra holiday to sleep. Leighton was totally thrown off her normal sleep schedule, so we're working on getting her back on track. She slept great last night...here's hoping that continues.

Leighton's hair has been really growing lately. When she wakes up from being asleep, it's just the wildest thing. Here she is right after waking up in the morning:

So Leighton has become, how shall I say, more challenging lately? Feeding time has become difficult because she just wants down (which I read is normal), but to help the situation, we moved her from her highchair to a booster seat this morning. She seemed to like sitting at the table with us:

Next I need to figure out how to make her want to get her diaper changed!
