1 Georgia's 2-month appointment

Georgia had her 2-month appointment today at the doctor. She's doing great! Her stats:
Weight: 8 pounds, 4 ounces (5th percentile)
Height: 20.5 inches (3rd percentile)
Head circumference: 37.5 (25th percentile)

She's got a big noggin! I guess Chad and I somehow just make small babies, because Leighton was pretty much the same in percentiles as well. Georgia is moving up on her weight growth curve, which was comforting to me because I know she's getting enough breastmilk (what Leighton calls "baby milk").

We take Georgia next week to get an ultrasound to see if she also has hip dysplasia like Leighton did. Let's hope not, but there is a genetic component so it's good we are checking. At least if she does have it, it won't be so much of a shock to us and we will be better prepared. But still...it is a pain in the rear so I'm praying she doesn't have it.

Georgia got some vaccinations today and boy she has been fussy this evening. I sent Chad out for some emergency Infant Tylenol. So far it hasn't made her too happy. Could be a long night...

2 San Antonio, Part 1

Ok. I have two weeks in San Antonio to catch up on. Here we go! So before Georgia was born, Chad and I decided to go ahead and schedule to have our foundation repaired. We've been needing to do it for a long time, but there never seemed to be a good time to do it (knowing that we couldn't stay at the house while it was going on). We took the plunge and set it up so I could take the girls to San Antonio to my parents' house while I was still on maternity leave from work. It was a crazy idea...traveling with a newborn while we are still in the trenches of "newborn-ness," but what can you do.

Outside
I told my mom that she didn't need to get anything for Leighton to play with while we were there. She's so easy to please (Leighton, that is). But my mom got a few toys for the backyard and Leighton enjoyed them thoroughly. The weather was beautiful and warm the whole time we were there, so we spent much of our time in the backyard.



This is Leighton bowing. My mom taught her this one night right after Georgia was born. Leighton was putting on one of her shows for us and my mom told her to take a bow. This is how she does it--hilarious!

I've noticed Uncle Matt is always willing to go 100% all out to try to impress Leighton with his play skills.
Sweet Georgia was perfectly content to nap inside, outside...wherever! I'm crossing my fingers that she'll be a good napper during the day (cause Leighton has never really been much of a napper).


Botanical Gardens
My brother Brad works at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens, so we went to visit him while we were there. The ducks were a huge hit with Leighton!
This is sort of an awkward pose. I was trying to get down on Leighton's level...although with this extra baby weight it is sort of hard to maneuver easily.
Leighton was so sweet to the ducks, saying "Hi ducky" and feeding them. If you live in San Antonio and have kids, the Botanical Gardens really is a fun outing.

I know I am biased but this is a beautiful picture! My dad took it, of course. I thought there was no chance Leighton would pose for him, but I was wrong.
Almost as exciting as the ducks were the stairs that Leighton wanted to walk up and down, up and down, again and again.

I mentioned Leighton putting on a show earlier and taking a bow. Here she is putting on a show for my parents (she's very flexible with what she will use for a microphone).

Playdate with Lucile and Luci
One of my good friends growing up now lives right down the street from my parents. Luci had her daughter, Lucile, a couple of months before I had Leighton. I was so excited to finally meet Lucile and have a playdate while we were there. Leighton was a little shy at first, and there were a couple of speedbumps with sharing toys (as there is with all toddlers). After hugging my leg tightly for a while, Leighton finally loosened up when she saw all of Lucile's fun toys.

Here's Leighton going down the slide after much coaxing (Lucile had gone down the slide repeatedly and I was trying so hard to get Leighton to join her but she wouldn't leave my side).

The girls ate lunch together, which was fun to watch. Luci (Lucile's mom) and I knew each other at a pretty young age as well, so watching our girls together was sort of touching.
Look at this sweetness! They grabbed each other's hands all by themselves! So adorable. We will definitely have to get together with Lucile the next time we are my my parents' house. It was a lot of fun for Leighton and for me!

Children's Museum with Kay and Amy
We took the girls to New Braunfels to the McKenna Children's Museum to meet our good friends Kay and Amy and Amy's two kids Samuel and Jane Ann. I've mentioned them before...Kay and my mom went to dental hygiene school and have known each other for over 40 years. So I've known them my whole life. Jane Ann was born a few months after Leighton and we haven't gotten them together in a long time.

The museum was really fun! Right when we walked in there were baby crocodiles.

Leighton's favorite part of the whole place was this outdoor area they have with all kinds of water fun. In fact, Leighton liked it so much that we hardly spent any time inside, so I don't exactly know what all there was inside.
Leighton is in this phase right now where she has to wear sunglasses all the time. She would NOT take them off!
Inside they had this cool room that was set up like a grocery store and once I got Leighton to go in, she loved it. Kay took her around the room shopping, and then she and Jane Ann did a little shopping together.

After the museum, we had a picnic in the park. It was a gorgeous day and the kids enjoyed running around. I LOVE this picture of Kay holding Georgia.

This picture cracks me up. I didn't notice it at the time, but they are both pulling up their left leg. Synchronized toddlers!
Momma and Kay. I think our moms are so good lookin and so much fun! We had a great day with them.


Samuel is such a sweet boy. So quiet (Amy-is he always?). I told her he is probably the sweetest boy I've been around. He kissed Georgia all on his own.

My mom did Ring Around the Rosy with Leighton and JA, and Samuel and Amy joined in. Leighton had never done it and of course sang it the whole way home.

It was fun having so many fun activities while we were in San Antonio. And challenging! I had never had both girls in the car at the same time by myself before driving to San Antonio, so I had to navigate handling both girls and packing the diaper bag alone etc. Our ride to San Antonio was a bit of a hoot. About halfway there, Leighton had fallen asleep and Georgia woke up crying to eat. I pulled over in a parking lot to breastfeed Georgia and then Leighton woke up and cried for about 30 minutes. Thankfully, Georgia fell asleep again and Leighton and I looked for cows and horses the rest of the way to San Antonio. Yikes!

I have many more pictures and stories to share, so much more to come. (Another thing I'm learning about having two kids: NO FREE TIME TO BLOG!)

3 2 months old!

I have been in San Antonio the past two weeks while we fixed the foundation on our house, so I have tons of pictures and stories to catch up on. But today is a special day: Georgia is officially two months old! While we were in San Antonio, she started smiling and cooing. It's so rewarding to get a grin from her. Also in San Antonio, she had her worst and best nights of sleep. I'll talk more about that when I do those updates, but she's definitely improving!

1 Rodeo Cowgirl

I realize I'm not blogging as much as I would like. Georgia has been so tough at night I literally am just taking care of her and sleeping. I go to bed at 8 at night now. Chad and I have worked out a routine where he takes Georgia until midnight or 1, and then I take her till the morning. Sadly, many times she is awake (and so am I) from midnight on. However, last night she slept from 1-5, so I greatly appreciated the extra sleep. Even as I write right now, Georgia is chomping at the bit to eat, so I'm rushing through to finish this!

The rodeo is going on here in Houston, and Chad and I were anxious to take Leighton to see the animals. So the four of us headed to the rodeo. Leighton was very excited on the way there as we talked about all the animals we would see.
However, once we got inside, she was actually SCARED of the animals. She held on to Chad for dear life in the petting zoo and would not be put down.

Miss Moo said hello to her and she cried.

She did enjoy looking at the bunnies...but we stopped taking pictures because all I was getting was Leighton crying on film. She did enjoy when we sat to eat lunch. She likes sausage! At least the trip was somewhat of a success. Georgia slept the whole time, which was helpful.

We've had some excitement here this weekend. Leighton had her hair in pigtails for the very first time. Chad actually put them up for her. She LOVES them. She swings her head around and giggles. I, of course, could eat her up she's so cute.
I LOVE LOVE when Chad holds the babies on him. They are so tiny in comparison to him it just melts my heart.
Georgia has a fairly bad case of baby acne right now, poor thing. I've been trying to get a picture taken for her birth announcement but I really think I'm just going to have to wait until it clears up.
Here's Leighton in one of her spring dresses and new tennis shoes. She is starting to be a little choosy about what she wears each day. She picked this dress out this morning.
Uh oh. Looks like we've got a diva in the making on our hands. This pose cracks me up.
