0 Leighton the acolyte

At school, the girls go to chapel on Mondays and Wednesdays. Father Wismer is in charge of the service, but the students also participate. Each quarter, different classes participate in the service, based on their grade level. Kindergarten carries the Prayer Book and Chimes. First Grade serves as ushers (greet and hold), Second as acolytes (carry the candles), Third as crucifers (carry the cross), and Fourth as scripture readers. Today, Leighton got to serve as an acolyte. She said she was nervous she was going to catch her hair on fire, but she did great. We were so proud!

 

We actually aren't supposed to take pictures in Chapel, so I had to be sneaky about taking these. That's Leighton at the end of the line.

 

I love this school and love how they have Chapel twice a week, and I love that all the kids get a chance to be a part of the service. What a great way to start our week!

0 Georgia's broken arm

The girls had their first full week of school last week, and they adjusted to their school-time sleeping schedules pretty great. I was so worried that Georgia was going to have a hard time waking up so early this year but she's getting up without a problem. I walked these cuties into school last Wednesday and got a cute picture of them in their uniforms. Love them!

On Thursday, I was on my way to the school to get in the carpool line when I got a call from Georgia's super sweet teacher, Ms. Nelson. She said Georgia fell off the monkey bars during recess and they were in the nurse's office and Georgia had a lot of pain in her arm, so she wondered if I might come to get Georgia there as opposed to waiting in the carpool line. I jokingly asked, "is her arm broken?" When she replied, "It's a possibility..." I stepped on the gas. I ran into the nurse's office to find Georgia sitting there with this sad face.

Poor thing! It just broke my heart. The nurse said she had iced it down and that she recommended we get an X-ray just to be sure. I was so glad Ms. Nelson had carried Georgia to the nurse from the playground and had stayed with her (she sent the Kindergarten assistant with her class). It is such a comfort to know Georgia is in good hands when I'm not with her. Ms. Nelson ran and got Leighton out of her class for me, and we immediately called Taylor Brown to ask what we should do. I apologized for calling with all our family injuries. As usual, he told us to head right to his office so he could check Georgia out. I could tell that Georgia was in a lot of pain on the way there...she was staring out her window with a sad look on her face. The X-ray showed a buckled fracture right near her wrist. It might be hard to see in these pictures but it was obvious in person.

Taylor told us we could either have a cast or a brace. He said casts are fun for one day and they they stink. Literally. We chose a brace so Georgia could take it off to bathe. Otherwise, she has to wear it all the time for three weeks. I am thankful she broke her left arm and not her right, so she's still able to be the self-sufficient, independent little girl she likes to be.

Leighton took some pictures with my phone while we were at Taylor's office. I think Georgia was feeling good enough to pose silly for a couple.

Georgia can't raise her arm all by herself. She has to pick it up with her other hand. It's sort of sad to watch. I hope that gets better soon.

Our friend Kathryn helped us spice us Georgia's brace with her initials in pink glitter, and that seems to make Georgia pretty happy. And for the record, Kindergarten can no longer play on the monkey bars at recess. Georgia has already made her mark at school!

0 First day of school, 2015

Today was a HUGE day in our house! Leighton and Georgia went to school for the first full day (yesterday, we went to pick up school supplies and see our classrooms, but it took only a couple of hours). Both girls were excited this morning, which was a relief. Georgia had been nervous leading up to this week, so I was concerned it was going to be a difficult morning. Not at all! She happily got dressed and ready, and Chad says she got right out of the car and ran off into the school with a smile on her face. Whew!

 I am thrilled to have them at the same school, on the same schedule. It's going to be AWESOME for me, and I'm glad they will get to see each other throughout the day. At pickup today, both girls told me they had a great day. Both were bubbly and happy and had lots to share about their day. I'm thrilled! Relieved. Whew. Victory!

0 Christmas 2014 Baking

Maybe this coming school year I will be able to keep update this blog more with all of our activities. That's my hope! So...here's some more Christmas (in summer) fun. I LOVE doing our gingerbread houses, and we have enjoyed having friends over to work on them the past couple of years. Of course, at this point, it's pretty much just a candy eating party, but that's half the fun. We had Gordon and Harry over to decorate, and I made sure to have some masculine decor for their houses (because I always have girly stuff for Leighton and Georgia's).

Did they have fun? Yes! Did they consume mass amounts of icing and candy? Yes! Did they run in circles and yell and scream? Yes! Mission accomplished. Unfortunately, I don't think I have any photos of their final creations.

Another cute baking activity we tried this year: frosting ice cream cones and then decorating with candy. For that, we had Tasia and Kyra over.

I made these for a party at Georgia's school. They are adorable, but a slight pain to make because you have to cut the M&Ms in half...and they don't always break right down the middle. But aren't they so cute?
