1 Georgia's 15 months old!

At the doctor today for Georgia's 15-month checkup, we got her latest stats. I still can't believe that she and Leighton are so identical in their growth! (Only ONE ounce difference in their weights at 15 months. Pretty amazing.)

Georgia, 15 months:
Height: 29.5 inches (23rd percentile)
Weight: 20 pounds, 14 ounces (20th percentile)

Leighton at this time:
Height: 30.5 inches
Weight: 20 pounds, 13 ounces
  • Words: Mama, dada, no-no, baby, boo (balloon), buh (book), buhboo (bubble). bobble (bottle), agua (for water and most anything else), yellow, blue.
  • Favorite foods: Baby goldfish, fruit smashies, apples, strawberries, macaroni, veggie lasagna.
  • Likes to feed herself, tries to use a spoon to put food in her mouth, and still WILL NOT drink milk out of a sippy cup, only a bottle (although she will drink water from a sippy cup).
  • Favorite book: Cats, Wheels on the bus, Goodnight Moon.
  • Walks everywhere, gets into everything, puts everything into her mouth (including crayons, books, balloons, dirty diapers, you name it!), waves bye-bye, and points to what she wants.
  • Naps for roughly two hours every day from 1-3p.m. If we in any way mess with the timing of this nap (even by 30 minutes) it does not happen.
  • Sleeps about 12 hours a night (WHEW...we worked HARD for that!!) from about 6:30 at night to 6:30 in the morning.
  • Has a pretty short fuse. It doesn't take much to get a cry from Georgia! Of course with Leighton constantly taking things away from her and pushing her around, she has plenty to get upset about.
  • Gets way excited when she sees Elmo on the television and bounces her legs likes she's dancing.
  • Loves the bathtub, loves to suck water out of the wash rags (often goes running down the hallway with a wash rag hanging out of her mouth), and tries to climb out of the bathtub.
  • Likes climbing and jumping off furniture (this totally freaks me out).
We are just loving Georgia and love watching her and Leighton interact. Most times, Leighton is very sweet with her, and helpful, and protective. There have been many hugs and kisses lately between those two!

0 Haircut #3

Leighton loves her long hair and she really loves just wearing it down so she can swing it all around in all its glory. Every now and then she does let me do a ponytail, and once or a twice pigtails. Yesterday, I could not believe she let me do braids in her hair! They were adorable.

Of course she let me do braids the very day she was going to get a haircut. I briefly considered cutting several inches, but instead we just went for a trim. (That's Didi from across the street...Leighton's personal stylist.)
I promise you Leighton had this same expression on her face during the entire haircut. It was like a deer in headlights.
The finished product! Ta-da! As Leighton says "Yip-yip hooray!" I realized a few months ago that those combination shampoo/baby wash products weren't going to work on Leighton's hair anymore, and Didi confirmed that we need to use shampoo AND conditioner on Leighton. Wah! She's a big girl now!

3 Easter Sunday

Whew! What a fun-filled Easter weekend we had. By the time Sunday morning rolled around, we were all pretty tired. But there's nothing like a visit from the Easter Bunny to get you going again. The Easter Bunny was good to our girls this year. We woke up to find these wonderful gifts spread out on the coffee table.
Here's Leighton's Easter basket, filled with all kinds of cool princess stuff and even a Dora ballet nightgown!
Georgia's basket had some fun books and sidewalk chalk and bubbles, and even a cool new purse that sings songs!
The Easter Bunny clearly knows our girls because he brought more Play-Doh (which they play with all the time) and notepads with colored pens. Leighton LOVES writing and taking notes, so she's really had a lot of fun with those. Thanks Easter Bunny!

Georgia woke up first (she's been waking up at 6:30 a.m. lately) and I went ahead and let her check out her basket.
Yeah, that's a bobble-head bunny filled with jellybeans that Georgia will not be eating. Sorry Easter Bunny, I just can't give that little girl sugar just yet. But I appreciate that you were trying to give the girls equal items in their baskets!

I believe Georgia enjoyed her Easter excitement, but I KNOW she enjoyed watching Leighton see her basket.
When Leighton woke up yesterday, she stood at our hall door calling for me (she usually just runs right in) and she whispered "Mommy, the Easter Bunny came." He sure did.

I told you, Easter Bunny, Leighton really does love the notepads and pens. She has been taking notes and "writing" names for the past 24 hours.
I was changing Leighton's diaper when she noticed a big yellow egg right outside the window. She jumped up and tried to run out the front door to find more eggs. Naked. I briefly thought, "why not?" but I guess a little girl running around her front yard naked is not totally appropriate? Anyway, we managed to get a diaper on her before she bolted out the door.

I was anxious for Chad to help Georgia out the door because I didn't want Leighton to find ALL the eggs and leave Georgia with nothing. Turns out, I had NOTHING to worry about. This was the all-time longest Easter Egg Hunt I've ever witnessed. Leighton found one egg. And opened it. And then opened the candy in it. And then ate it. And then rejoiced in the deliciousness of the candy.
Georgia got to business finding eggs.
See Leighton's basket? Empty. There were eggs EVERYWHERE and she was stuck with that first one. We were saying "Go! Go! Grab the eggs and we'll open them after." But no. She did things her way.

In the end, both girls got lots of eggs in their baskets and Leighton ate WAY too much candy. Georgia had a lot of fun finding eggs too, although she could have cared less what was inside.

Didi took a picture of us before we left for church. I cropped off the bottom of the picture so you couldn't see that Leighton was wearing Crocs to church. Don't judge me! She would NOT put on any other shoes and I didn't want to have her crying and having a situation on Easter, so we just let her wear the Crocs. But I know everyone at church was looking at her feet and then looking at me and wondering why I thought that was cute. Oh well...after thinking about it, who cares! We had a fun day and the girls had a fabulous day and that is what matters.

0 Easter Saturday

The day before Easter we went to Leighton's school for their Easter Egg hunt. We have been there the past two years as well, so it's become a tradition. The dress Georgia wore is the one Leighton wore her first Easter there. So sweet!

They separated the kids into three age groups, so Georgia and Leighton ended up in different groups. I took Leighton while Chad took Georgia. I'm not saying it was a competition between us or anything, but Georgia got ZERO eggs and Leighton got about 20. But who's keeping score? (WE WIN! WE WIN!)

I gave Leighton a little pep talk before the hunt began. Basically I just said "when they say go, run and put an egg in your basket." I set the bar pretty low for her...I just wanted her to get at least one egg. But then I heard this dad next to us telling HIS daughter to run past the closest eggs and go for the middle area of the field, which was some good strategy. So that's what we did. Leighton was awesome!

I had to help her along, but she was pretty fast and kept looking for eggs until they were all gone.

Look at all those eggs in her basket! We were rocking it! Our friend Gordon was there too and sadly, he only got two eggs, so in the spirit of Easter, we gave him about half of our eggs. Cause we share!

So the past two years, Leighton has cried with the Easter Bunny. I just assumed she would again this year, especially because we have the picture of her crying with the Easter Bunny last year up on our refrigerator and she comments on it all the time. However, she hopped (pardon the pun) right up to the bench and gave us a big smile. We couldn't believe it!
Georgia, on the other hand, was totally freaked out even though she wasn't even sitting right next to the Easter Bunny.

I think we could have gotten her to smile eventually because she looked like she was starting to calm down, but there was a long line of people behind us so we had to end our photo session.

We ran into Leighton's friend from school, Montgomery, and Georgia was just fascinated with her. It warmed my heart to watch this interaction, and I don't know why. But I loved it!

1 School Easter party

Leighton's Easter party at school was yesterday, and I signed up to bring the sweet treats. I was pretty proud of my Easter basket cupcakes. Of course, there was a little drama with the cupcakes. I made them the afternoon before the party, and when we got up yesterday morning, all the "handle" parts of the cupcakes had broken in half. I originally used Sour Patch straws as the handles. So I ran to Michael's and got pipe cleaners and used those instead. The kids were all super excited to see the cupcakes. Score!
The class "parties" are pretty mellow. They are always right after naps so the kids are still waking up. Yesterday they put stickers on plastic Easter eggs and then sugared up on cupcakes and juice.

I had to get pictures of some of Leighton's Easter artwork hanging in the class. Leighton's teacher tells me Leighton is very meticulous when she does art. She likes things just so and perfect. I wonder who she got that from! (Uh, me.)

Georgia is just chatting up a storm these days. She is able to repeat lots of words that we say to her now. She says "agua" (Spanish for water) a lot (and in reference to more than just water), and she also says More, Bye-bye, hola, and much more. I can't wait (although I can...trying to enjoy every day) to see her and Leighton actually have a conversation someday!
